Bronze and Silver pins awarded to Katelyn HolmesIowa Katelyn Holmes, Benton, Iowa, has earned the National Junior Angus Association's Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association in Saint Joseph, Mo. She received her pins at the recent Iowa Summer Junior Angus Show. A member of the NJAA since 2002, Katelyn is the 11-year-old daughter of Tricia and Colby Holmes and attends Diagonal Community School. She serves as the director for the tall corn district with the Iowa Junior Angus Association. Katelyn has excelled with her Angus cattle in the show ring at numerous shows on the local, state, regional, and national levels. She has participated in the NJAA judging contest at the National Junior Angus Show. Katelyn has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records program and consigned cattle to the Iowa Angus Association bull test and sale. In 2006, her cow, R M Barbaramere 12, was recognized as a Pathfinder cow by the American Angus Association. The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle. The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide. 7/21/08 Date: 7/16/08 Advertisement
