Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 600 head July 15, compared to 755 head last week and 859 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $1 lower on a limited test. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were not enough for a market test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 12% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1/2%, replacement cows 3% and feeders 84%. The feeder supply included 25% steers and 75% heifers, with nearly 59% over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 491 lbs., 114.00, package 493 lbs., 117.50; package 510 lbs., 112.00; package 537 lbs., 113.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 477 lbs., 107.50; lot 582 lbs., 117.00; package 626 lbs., 108.50; lot 754 lbs., 110.50; package 845 lbs., 102.50; package 1017 lbs., 80.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 538 lbs., 107.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 336 lbs., 112.50; package 427 lbs., 109.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.00 to 106.50, full 99.00 to 100.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 102.50 to 105.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 395 lbs., 102.00; package 645 lbs., 82.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 51.50 to 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 55.00 to 59.00; high dressing, 60.00; low dressing, 53.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 55.00 to 58.75; low dressing, 50.00 to 51.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 49.50 to 55.50; low dressing, 45.50 to 48.00; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 42.50 to 45.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1700 to 1840 lbs., 75.00 to 75.50; low dressing, 1300 to 1350 lbs., 53.00 to 64.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 950 to 1386 lbs., cows 6 to 8 months bred, 600.00 to 910.00 per head; aged, 945 lbs., 6 months bred, 625.00 per head. Small and medium frame 2 to 3, middle-aged, 955 to 1055 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, 485.00 to 490.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, young to middle-aged, 700 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 530.00 per pair.
