Alexander named SWKC scholarship recipientKansas Southwest Kansas Cattlewomen proudly announce Paige Alexander as their 2008 $1000 scholarship recipient. Paige and her husband Clint Alexander are residents of Satanta, Kan., and she is the daughter of Gary and Jody Johnson, Dwight, Kan. Paige is working toward her Ph.D. at Texas Tech University, in statistical genetics and beef animal breeding. Her research will be heritability of the muscle characteristics that affect tenderness in meat. Paige plans for her research to aid producers in selecting more practical tools in finding potential and highly detectable characteristics which impact meat tenderness. Paige attended Butler Community College on a full-ride livestock judging scholarship, before transferring to Kansas State University where she was a member of both the horse and livestock judging teams. Following earning her B.S. at KSU, Paige worked in the dairy industry and then served as Haskell County Extension agent. She shared responsibility of the 4-H youth development program, implemented a county-wide carcass judging show and "An Hour of Ag" program for 2nd grade classrooms in Haskell County. Paige now serves as co-chairman for the Beef Empire Days Grandstand Judging Contest, where she has helped the event to grow by adding the Beef Judging Contest to the Grandstand Judging event. Paige has been very active judging 4-H project talks and demonstrations, judging county fair and open horse shows, beef shows and officiated 4-H and FFA livestock and horse judging contests. She has served on several boards including the Haskell County Farm Bureau, Haskell County Emergency Crop Board, Great Plains Crop Residue Management Alliance, Kansas Agriculture County Agents Association. In 2007, Paige was awarded the Honorary Chapter FFA degree for her extensive help with Satanta FFA and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, for her educational excellence. 7/14/08 Date: 7/17/08 Advertisement
