Alan Kurk named AgriLife information technology directorTexas Alan Kurk has been named director of information technology for Texas A&M AgriLife, according to Dr. Mark Hussey, interim vice chancellor of agriculture and life sciences. "He brings a broad array of experiences from both the corporate and higher education sectors," said Hussey. "I'm pleased that he is joining my administrative team." As director, Kurk will provide oversight and coordination of information technology for both the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Texas AgriLife Research. He comes to the position from Texas AgriLife Communications where he had served as Web manager since early 2007. "I'm excited about moving forward with AgriLife IT," Kurk said. "This unit is poised to be a leading IT organization within the A&M System, and I'm thrilled to be a part of that." Kurk graduated with a bachelor's in engineering technology with an emphasis in telecommunications from Texas A&M University in 1989. He began his career as a network and systems manager with Texas A&M's department of engineering technology. In 1994, he began a Web technologies company which later sold to TXU Communications. He developed a Web services unit for TXU and headed up their product development for emerging technologies. In 2002, Kurk joined RLX Technologies in The Woodlands. When that company was acquired by Hewlett Packard in 2005, Kurk continued in his leadership role of the software design division until coming to work for the Texas A&M System. 7/21/08 Date: 7/17/08
