Springfield livestock sales

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,313 head July 9, compared to 863 head last week and 2,170 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to a light test last week, steer and heifer calves were steady to $3 higher, yearlings steady, Holsteins were $1 to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good, supply moderate to light. The feeder cattle and calf market reflected last week's higher cash fed cattle trade, higher cattle futures and the lower corn futures contracts. The feeder supply included 41% steers, 10% Holsteins, 38% heifers, 12% bulls, with 42% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 357 lbs., 123.00; package 470 lbs., 116.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 114.50 to 124.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 113.00 to 121.00; package 705 lbs., 114.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 247 lbs., 133.00; 325 to 400 lbs., 110.00 to 124.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 109.00 to 114.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 106.00 to 114.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 104.00 to 106.50; package 801 lbs., 108.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, package 265 lbs., 75.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 71.00 to 75.00; 430 to 455 lbs., 77.00 to 78.00; 525 to 600 lbs., 72.00 to 73.50; 725 to 750 lbs., 75.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 71.50 to 74.50; lot 1087 lbs., 65.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 251 lbs., 119.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 107.00 to 117.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 104.50 to 111.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 113.00; 625 to 675 lbs., 98.00 to 104.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 387 lbs., 97.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 96.00 to 104.50, package thin 105.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 93.00 to 102.00, thin 103.00 to 104.00, package fleshy 85.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 88.50 to 103.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 90.00 to 94.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 425 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 117.00; 525 to 575 lbs., 108.00 to 114.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 103.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 375 to 400 lbs., 112.00 to 114.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 100.00 to 114.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 93.50 to 107.00.
