OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 7,801 head July 9, compared to 4,449 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to the last test 2 weeks ago, feeder steers were $3 to $5 higher. Feeder heifers were $1 to $4 higher, least advance on 8 weights. Steer and heifer calves were $3 to $5 higher. Demand was very good for all classes. Feeders in thin to fleshy conditions. Weighing conditions were mostly average. Several loads of fancy, reputation brand calves available. The supply consisted of 80% over 600 pounds, 18% under 600 pounds, 2% cows and bulls. The total included 34% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $5 higher, breaker cows holding mostly steady. Slaughter bulls were $4 higher. Packer demand very good for light numbers. A total of 163 cows and bulls sold with 62% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 10 head, 1375 to 2300 lbs., 72.00 to 75.00; high dressing, 78.50 to 82.50; low dressing, 66.50 to 70.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 1050 lbs., 5 months bred, average black 920.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average black 780.00 to 820.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 700 to 850 lbs., with 75- to 100-lb. calves, average quality 860.00 to 910.00; 2 to 4 years old, 1000 to 1050 lbs., with 75- to 150-lb. calves, average quality 1225.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1275 lbs., with 150- to 300-lb. calves, average black 1100.00 to 1375.00.
