North Arkansas livestock sales report

The North Arkansas Livestock Auction, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 1,026 head July 9, compared to 972 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $3 higher. Feeder steers mixed with calves under 650 pounds were steady to $1 lower and yearlings over 650 pounds were $1 to $4 higher. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $1 lower, over 500 pounds were steady to $4 higher. The supply included about 453 feeder calves, 385 yearlings, 65 replacement or feeder cows, 96 slaughter cows, 24 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included about 46% over 600 pounds, 38% steers, 1% Holsteins, 41% heifers, and 20% bulls.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 59.00 to 62.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 52.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 64.25. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 46.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 35.00 to 40.00; high dressing, 53.00; low dressing, 25.00 to 30.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 65.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 74.00 to 81.50; low dressing, 60.00.
