Joplin regional cattle sales

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 3,500 head July 7, compared to 4,000 head last week and 5,156 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower with the exception of heavy steers weighing over 900 pounds which traded $2 higher. Buyers digesting mixed signals early this week with limit down grain futures and sharp losses on CME Live Cattle contracts, especially deferred, following a higher fed cattle market last week that broke the century mark. The supply was fairly light with moderate to good demand. Receipts included 62% steers and only 38% heifers, with around 58% of the cattle over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 121.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 112.00, thin 112.50 to 115.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 104.50 to 111.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 103.50 to 109.60. Large frame 1, package 550 lbs., 109.00; package 660 lbs., 108.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 900 to 1000 lbs., 100.50 to 103.00. Large frame 2, package 550 lbs., 109.00. Medium frame 2, package 565 lbs., 102.00.
