Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 516 head July 8, compared to 755 head last week and 896 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $2 higher on a limited test. Slaughter cows uneven, with Breaking and Boning cows $1 higher, Lean cows were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady on a limited test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 9% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 1% and feeders 88%. The feeder supply included 63% steers and 37% heifers, with nearly 81% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 420 lbs., 122.00; lot 791 lbs., 110.75; package 821 lbs., 107.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 135.00 to 141.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 108.00 to 112.75.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 200 to 250 lbs., 320.00 to 330.00 per head; package 306 lbs., 118.00; package 527 lbs., 109.50; lot 740 lbs., 104.75, lot 758 lbs., fleshy 102.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 765 to 800 lbs., 103.00 to 103.85.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 60.00 to 65.00; low dressing, 55.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 58.50 to 63.50; high dressing, 64.00 to 65.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 53.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 51.00 to 56.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 64.00; low dressing, 48.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.50 to 48.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 67.50 to 72.50; high dressing, 1450 to 2150 lbs., 77.50 to 82.50; low dressing, 1200 to 1300 lbs., 55.00 to 63.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1000 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 650.00 to 760.00 per head; young, 1310 lbs., 6 months bred, 800.00 per head.
