Wyobraska cattle sales

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Dec. 29, totaled 635 head, compared to 5,150 head last week and 1,910 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Markets, Torrington, Wyo.

There were no comparable sales at the Wyoming auctions this week, due to the holiday week. Direct trading was very slow this past week, with a few steers steady. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry light to moderate. Offerings were light to moderate, with most yearling cattle sold. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 72% of the supply, heifers 28%, with 69% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 305 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 590 lbs., 110.50; 660 lbs., 104.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 lbs., 123.00; 430 lbs., 114.00; 480 lbs., 117.00; 515 lbs., 116.00; 645 lbs., 108.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 660 lbs., 107.50; 730 lbs., 105.00.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 545 lbs., 100.00; 570 lbs., 96.00; 800 to 805 lbs., 93.50; 1020 lbs., 84.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 510 lbs., 95.00; 670 lbs., 108.00; 725 lbs., 97.00; 755 lbs., 98.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, none.
