New, more rounded edges will help patches stay more secure and increase their overall performance in detecting standing heats. The corners were chamfered to minimize any rolling of the patch edges when the animals are mounted frequently. And the border was reversed and minimized to make it easier to detect any changes on the patch's surface after animals have been mounted.
