Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending July 18, totaled 7,200 head, compared to 5,700 head last week and 5,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder cattle under 700 pounds sold firm to $3 higher, instances were $4 to $5 higher except heifers at Riverton Livestock were steady to $4 lower, instances were $5 lower, over 700 pounds had no good comparison. Demand was moderate to good. Overall quality good with several strings of green, fancy calves offered. The moderate supply of cattle carryed a fair to moderate amount of mud. Direct trading was very slow with no recent price comparisons available. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 61% of the supply, heifers 39%, with 48% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1150 head of the total receipts.
