St. Onge livestock sales

The St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,566 head Jan. 18, compared to 1,351 head last week and 3,540 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared with last week's light test feeder steers sold steady to $3 higher, and feeder heifers sold unevenly steady. Demand was good with strong winds and blowing snow over the western Dakotas. Several consignments were cancelled this week. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady on a light test. Slaughter bulls were not tested. Feeder steers comprised 51% of the run, heifers 49%, with 31% of the supply over 600 pounds. Receipts about 91% feeder cattle, with nearly 9% slaughter cows.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 349 lbs., 140.00; 8 head, 399 lbs., 140.00; 412 to 446 lbs., 129.00 to 130.00 (129.68); 5 head, 407 lbs., 139.00 fancy; 12 head, 465 lbs., 128.00; 25 head, 482 lbs., 128.50 value added; 505 to 525 lbs., 121.00 to 124.50 (123.85); 552 to 594 lbs., 114.00 to 120.50 (114.72); 67 head, 563 lbs., 121.50 value added; 621 to 649 lbs., 101.00 to 109.75 (106.94) calves; 7 head, 698 lbs., 98.50; 655 to 664 lbs., 102.00 to 111.00 (104.17) calves; 707 to 726 lbs., 97.75 to 99.25 (98.38) calves; 752 to 760 lbs., 94.25 to 97.00 (95.14); 14 head, 803 lbs., 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 597 lbs., 112.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 18 head, 384 lbs., 124.00; 430 to 436 lbs., 118.00 to 120.00 (118.71); 458 to 475 lbs., 114.00 to 117.00 (115.25); 462 to 476 lbs., 116.50 to 120.50 (119.64) value added; 508 to 537 lbs., 104.00 to 110.00 (109.42); 500 to 510 lbs., 109.00 to 112.50 (111.29) value added; 558 to 595 lbs., 98.50 to 107.00 (101.34); 46 head, 558 lbs., 110.00 replacement; 603 to 648 lbs., 91.00 to 94.50 (92.52) calves; 653 to 694 lbs., 91.00 to 93.00 (91.99) calves; 713 to 739 lbs., 89.50 to 91.75 (91.14). Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1240 to 1510 lbs., 42.50 to 46.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1155 to 1475 lbs., 40.50 to 42.00; high dressing, 43.50; low dressing, 37.50 to 39.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1010 to 1425 lbs., 34.50 to 39.00; high dressing, 39.00 to 40.40; low dressing, 32.50 to 35.00.
