Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 433 head Jan. 21, compared to 631 head last week and 343 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, wooled slaughter lambs sold steady. Trends were not applicable on shorn lambs for lack of comparable sales. There were not enough slaughter ewes and feeder lambs for an accurate market trend, however a steady undertone was noted. Receipts included 61% slaughter lambs, 12% slaughter ewes, 11 feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 141 to 143 lbs., 89.75 to 90.00 (89.80). Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 63 head, 122 lbs., 90.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 134 to 141 lbs., 85.25 to 86.00 (85.55); 47 head, 159 lbs., 83.25.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 12 head, 133 to 139 lbs., 30.00 to 31.00 (30.51); 13 head, 180 to 187 lbs., 39.00 to 40.00 (39.62). Good 2 to 4, 6 head, 196 lbs., 26.00. Utility 1 to 2, 6 head, 136 lbs., 20.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 29 head, 72 lbs., 110.00; 4 head, 81 lbs., 97.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 12 head, 45 to 47 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00 (109.41). Selection 2, 21 head, 48 lbs., 77.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 61 head, 128 lbs., 58.00.
