Safety training for ethanol industry held at universityBROOKINGS, S.D. (AP)--A course on safety and health in ethanol production was offered recently at South Dakota State University. "We really feel that we are on the forefront of ethanol fuel production safety in the United States," James Manning, director of engineering extension for SDSU's College of Engineering, said in a release. Ethanol companies from several states sent employees to Brookings for the two-day voluntary safety training that focused on safety and health related to compliance with the federal Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration. It was the fifth such ethanol industry training event SDSU has held in the past five years. Thirty-six ethanol companies in eight states have sent people to previous sessions. About 50 people attended the latest training, and 132 people from ethanol plants throughout the region have attended previous sessions, the release said. 1/28/08 Date: 1/22/08
