Pratt cattle auction report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 3,646 head Jan. 17, compared to 2,990 head last week and 1,547 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, steers at 300 to 650 pounds were $2 to $4 lower in an extremely light supply, at 650 to 700 pounds were steady, at 700 to 900 pounds were $3 to $5 lower, and at 900 to 950 pounds were steady. Heifers at 300 to 650 pounds were steady to $3 lower in an extremely light supply, and at 650 to 850 pounds were $2 to $5 lower. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows were $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 higher. Receipts included 83% 600 pounds and over, 13% 600 pounds and under, 4% cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 64% steers and 36% heifers.

Large frame 1, Young, 19 head, 1305 to 1350 (1331) lbs., 1185.00 to 1250.00 (1223.17).

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 52.00 to 56.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 42.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 48.00 to 51.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 60.00 to 65.00 (63.00); low dressing, 56.00 to 59.00 (57.40).
