OCA expands annual Cattlemen's Leadership Academy; now accepting nominationsOklahoma The Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association Executive Committee is excited to announce the expansion of the Cattlemen's Leadership Academy. The 15th Annual Cattlemen's Leadership Academy will include multiple sessions and additional educational opportunities. The Academy will involve 30 OCA member-beef producers from across the state of Oklahoma who represent many aspects of the beef cattle industry. Over the course of one year, the participants will encounter several educational experiences to inform and prepare them as future leaders of the Oklahoma cattle industry. CLA is the primary tool used by the OCA to educate and cultivate leaders in the Oklahoma beef industry. More than 400 OCA member-beef producers have participated in the program since 1993. "This has been a very successful program and we are excited about expanding it to a year-long event. We look forward to providing our participants with a well-rounded educational experience and the opportunity to become better acquainted with industry leaders, innovators and fellow producers," said Chancey Redgate, CLA Coordinator. The initial session of the 15th Annual Cattlemen's Leadership Academy is scheduled for Feb. 17 to 19 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Participants will visit the Oklahoma State Capitol, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and take part in the quarterly OCA Board of Directors meeting. In the past Governor Henry, Lt. Governor Askins and several house and senate members have been able to join us during our capitol visit. Additional sessions will focus on the feeding and processing sectors of the beef industry in Amarillo, Texas; rancher's resources in Stillwater, Okla.; evaluating live cattle and carcass characteristics at the Oklahoma Beef Council Beef Quality Summit in Stillwater, Okla., and a graduation session in February 2009 in Oklahoma City.
