McAlester livestock sales reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 700 head Jan. 22, compared to 2,600 head last week, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were firm. Inclement weather greatly reduced receipts. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was active. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts included 53% steers, 47% heifers with 32% feeders over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers with moderate interest in long bred cows with weather concerns an influence. A total of 105 cows and bulls sold with 46% to packers.
