McAlester livestock sales report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 700 head Jan. 22, compared to 2,600 head last week, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were firm. Inclement weather greatly reduced receipts. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was active. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts included 53% steers, 47% heifers with 32% feeders over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers with moderate interest in long bred cows with weather concerns an influence. A total of 105 cows and bulls sold with 46% to packers.

Light, 11 head, 85 to 92% lean, 675 to 950 lbs., 35.00 to 39.00; high dressing, 40.00 to 43.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1175 to 2000 lbs., 61.00 to 64.50; low dressing, 56.50 to 60.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 2 to 5 years old, 825 to 1275 lbs., second and third trimester bred, average, 670.00 to 720.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 4 years old, 1225 lbs., with 325-lb. calves, average blacks, 1100.00.
