Iowa Pork Queen and youth ambassador contestants announced

Iowa

The Iowa Pork Producers Association will crown the 2008 Iowa Pork royalty Jan. 23 in Des Moines.

The Iowa Pork Queen, Princess and Premier Pork Youth Ambassador will be introduced during the Iowa Pork Congress Banquet at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel beginning at 6 p.m.

Young women from 11 Iowa counties will compete for the right to be named Iowa Pork Queen. The runner up will become the Iowa Pork Princess. Three contestants will compete for the youth ambassador title.

All of the queen candidates are current county pork queens or princesses and the youth ambassador contestants have served in the same capacity for their county organization.

All of the contestants will be judged on their interviewing and communications skills, poise, presentation and overall knowledge of the pork industry and Iowa agriculture.

The young ladies selected as queen, princess and premier pork youth ambassador will represent the Iowa pork industry throughout the year at various promotional and educational events around the state, as well as at out-of-state events.

The queen and youth ambassador each receive a $2,000 college scholarship and the princess is awarded a $1,000 scholarship from IPPA.
