Amarillo livestock auction

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 929 head Jan. 22, compared to 1,734 head last week, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers at 500 to 850 pounds were $1 to $3 higher on a limited test. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $4 higher with an active trade. The bulk of supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade was moderate and demand was moderate to good, which is improved over recent weeks. Feeder cattle accounted for 90% and slaughter cows and bulls 10% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 69% of the run, heifers 31%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 56%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 457 lbs., 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 101.00 to 110.00; 600 to 650 lbs., calves 95.00 to 96.00, 600 to 700 lbs., short yearlings 100.00 to 102.50; 700 to 775 lbs., short yearlings 100.00 to 103.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 96.00 to 98.00; lot 900 lbs., 89.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 400 to 500 lbs., 97.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 91.00 to 100.00; 600 to 700 lbs., short yearlings 92.00 to 95.50; 700 to 800 lbs., calves 91.00 to 95.00; package 881 lbs., fleshy 92.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 300 to 350 lbs., thin 72.00 to 72.50; package 358 lbs., 94.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 95.00 to 96.00; package 557 lbs., 91.00; package 745 lbs., 85.00. Small and medium frame 3 to 4, few 375 to 400 lbs., 50.00 to 62.50; package 581 lbs., 43.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., few 103.00 to 105.00; 450 to 500 lbs., few 93.00 to 94.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 91.50 to 98.00; 600 to 650 lbs., few 93.50 to 94.00; lot 807 lbs., fleshy 88.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 90.00 to 99.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 93.50 to 95.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 89.00 to 95.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves few packages 84.00 to 89.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 400 to 500 lbs., 87.00 to 88.00. Small and medium frame 3 to 4, Jersey 600 to 625 lbs., 48.00 to 60.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 50.00 to 62.00; lot 816 lbs., 58.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 50.50 to 53.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 45.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 55.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 44.50 to 46.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1200 to 1900 lbs., individual 55.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 690.00 to 820.00 per head; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 625.00 to 720.00 per head; aged, 800 to 1000 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, 470.00 to 600.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 800.00 to 900.00 per pair.
