Amarillo livestock auctionThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 929 head Jan. 22, compared to 1,734 head last week, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers at 500 to 850 pounds were $1 to $3 higher on a limited test. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $4 higher with an active trade. The bulk of supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade was moderate and demand was moderate to good, which is improved over recent weeks. Feeder cattle accounted for 90% and slaughter cows and bulls 10% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 69% of the run, heifers 31%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 56%.
