Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 631 head Jan. 14, compared to 998 head last week and 480 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, after opening $1 to $2 lower, wooled, slaughter lambs closed steady to $1 lower, price trends are not applicable to shorn lambs due to lack of comparable sales. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs sold mostly steady on a light test. Receipts near 57% slaughter lambs, 15% slaughter ewes and 13% feeder lambs the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 153 to 168 lbs., 81.00 to 83.25 (81.83). Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 121 to 128 lbs., 84.00 to 88.25 (86.64); 131 to 147 lbs., 84.25 to 87.00 (86.09). Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 18 head, 135 lbs., 79.00; 154 to 160 lbs., 80.00 to 82.00 (80.77). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 7 head, 141 lbs., 34.00; 173 to 176 lbs., 35.75 to 36.00 (35.91); 18 head, 205 to 221 lbs., 33.75 to 36.00 (34.54). Good 2 to 4, 5 head, 233 lbs., 27.00. Utility 1 to 2, 15 head, 140 to 145 lbs., 21.50 to 24.75 (23.42). Cull 1, 6 head, 119 lbs., 16.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 67 lbs., 103.50; 12 head, 77 lbs., 105.00; 9 head, 84 lbs., 97.25; 7 head, 111 lbs., 91.25.
