Outstanding young Farm Bureau members honoredIowa Calhoun County farmers Brent and LuAnn Johnson were presented the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation's 2007 young farmer achievement award Dec. 8 at the organization's annual meeting in Des Moines. The annual contest honors young farmers who show outstanding management ability in their farming operations and involvement in Farm Bureau and community activities. Receiving second place in the contest were Andy and Jessica Riley of Greene County and third place recipients were Bryan and Audrey Amstutz of Davis County. Brent and LuAnn Johnson raise corn, soybeans, hay and cattle on their family farm near Manson. They also operate a custom grain-trucking business. In addition, Brent is a certified crop advisor and offers crop consulting and precision ag services. Brent has served in numerous leadership positions for the Calhoun County Farm Bureau including president, vice president, treasurer, policy development committee chairman and membership campaign manager. In addition, he was chairman of the IFBF Young Farmer Advisory Committee in 2005, and a graduate of the IFBF Ag Leaders Institute. The Johnsons' recognition includes keys to an AGCO tractor for 150 hours or 90 days, $500 cash award from General Motors, and a $250 product voucher from Valvoline. In addition, the Johnsons will receive an expense paid trip to the Growmark annual meeting. The Johnsons will represent Iowa in the National Young Farmer Achievement Award competition at the 2008 American Farm Bureau meeting in New Orleans. Brent and LuAnn have three children. Runners-up Andy and Jessica Riley grow corn and soybeans on their farm near Rippey. Andy also operates a seed dealership, and Jessica is a plant pathologist for Pioneer Hybrid International. Andy has served as a county vice president and young farmer chairman for the Greene County Farm Bureau, as well as participating on several committees. Andy was also a member of a Young Farmer Ag Challenge team. They received a $1,000 gift certificate from Orscheln Farm and Home and a $500 gift certificate for Growmark products. The Rileys have two children. Bryan and Audrey Amstutz of Davis County own and manage a grain and livestock operation near Pulaski. In addition to growing corn, soybeans and hay, the Amstutz family raises hogs and beef cattle. Bryan also runs a custom manure-hauling business. Bryan has served as membership director for the Davis County Farm Bureau, and is a graduate of the Iowa Farm Bureau Ag Leaders Institute. Bryan and Audrey have one daughter. For their third place honor, the Amstutzes received a GPS unit from Farm Bureau Financial Services and $200 from the Iowa Farm Bureau.
