Ericson cattle sales report

The Ericson Spalding Livestock Auction, Ericson, Neb., reported receipts of 2,800 head Jan. 12, compared to 3,400 head last week and 3,200 head last year, according to the USDA-Nebraska Department of Agriculture Market News, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, the bulk of feeder calves trended $5 to $6 lower. The exception being 500- to 550-weight steers and calves over 700 pounds, which all traded fairly steady. Cattle quality was average to good. Receipts consisted of 62% steers and 38% heifers, 52% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 423 to 446 lbs., 126.00 to 129.00 (126.66); 464 to 495 lbs., 118.00 to 135.50 lbs., 130.58; 511 to 539 lbs., 123.50 to 136.00 (130.55); 556 to 597 lbs., 99.25 to 115.50 (111.82); 91 head, 582 lbs., 119.25 fancy; 619 to 648 lbs., 103.50 to 111.00 (108.36) calves; 651 to 688 lbs., 101.75 to 108.85 (106.87) calves; 713 to 738 lbs., 98.00 to 101.00 (100.28) calves; 756 to 794 lbs., 95.00 to 103.00 (100.60) calves; 9 head, 813 lbs., 94.00 calves.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 11 head, 346 lbs., 128.00; 400 to 439 lbs., 114.00 to 116.00 (115.08); 471 to 491 lbs., 108.00 to 122.00 (114.62); 511 to 532 lbs., 99.00 to 109.25 (105.41); 550 to 598 lbs., 95.75 to 102.25 (98.92); 88 head, 566 lbs., 109.50 replacement; 600 to 635 lbs., 92.00 to 100.00 (96.26) calves; 75 head, 638 lbs., 100.25 replacement; 673 to 683 lbs., 94.25 to 98.00 (95.27) calves; 726 to 729 lbs., 91.00 to 93.10 (92.28) calves; 5 head, 799 lbs., 90.00; 5 head, 784 lbs., 90.50 calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 8 head, 488 lbs., 97.50; 21 head, 544 lbs., 94.00.
