Annual crop production statistics released by USDA

Texas

The 2007 Texas Upland cotton crop totaled 8.1 million bales, up 40 percent from 2006 and unchanged from last month. An estimated 4.7 million acres were harvested, 15 percent more than in 2006. Harvested acreage produced a yield of 827 pounds per acre, compared with a yield of 679 pounds last year.

Corn production was estimated at 296 million bushels, up 69 percent from 2006. Statewide yield was estimated at 148 bushels per acre, 27 bushels more than in 2006. Harvested acreage was estimated at 2.0 million acres, up 38 percent from 2006.

Texas peanut production was estimated at 739 million pounds, up 43 percent from 2006. Statewide yield, at 3,950 pounds per acre, was 400 pounds more than 2006.

Sorghum production was estimated at 162 million bushels, up 159 percent from 2006. Harvested acreage was estimated at 2.5 million acres, up 88 percent from the previous year. Yield, at 66 bushels per acre, was 18 bushels more than in 2006.

Rice production totaled 9.6 million cwt, down 11 percent from 2006. Statewide yield averaged 6,600 pounds per acre, 570 pounds less than the yield in 2006.

The 2007 Texas soybean crop was estimated at 3.0 million bushels, down 18 percent from the previous year. Harvested acreage was estimated at 82,000 acres, down 47 percent from 2006. Yield per acre was estimated at 37 bushels per acre, up 13 bushels from 2006.

Production of all hay was estimated at 15.3 million tons, up 77 percent the previous year. Harvested acreage, at 5.3 million acres, was up 4 percent, and yield was 2.87 tons per acre, compared with 1.68 tons in 2006.

United States corn production, at 13.1 billion bushels, was up 24 percent from the previous year. Yield was estimated at 151.1 bushels per acre, up 2.0 bushels from 2006. The U.S. sorghum crop was estimated at 505 million bushels, up 82 percent from 2006. The U.S. Upland cotton crop totaled 18.2 million bales, down 13.0 percent from 2006. Soybean production totaled 2.6 billion bushels, down 19.0 percent from last year. The U.S. peanut crop was estimated at 3.7 billion pounds, up 8.0 percent from a year ago. U.S. rice production was estimated at 197.5 million cwt, up 2.0 percent from 2006.
