Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 4,469 head Jan. 7, compared to 3,662 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Due to weather, holidays, and technical problems, no recent reported sales have been made to compare trends. The sale showed a lower undertone in both stocker and feeder cattle. Weigh-ups were mostly average, few full. Demand was good on better cattle, with good attendance of buyers. Receipts consisted of 44% steers, 47% heifers, 9% bulls, with 23% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. A total of 592 cows and bulls sold with 34% going to packers. Packer demand improved with steady to higher money noted on lean cows.

Lean, 55 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 45.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 40.50 to 44.00. Light, 48 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1000 lbs., 36.50 to 40.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 45.00; low dressing, 32.00 to 35.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 32 head, 1300 to 2125 lbs., 58.00 to 61.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 63.50; low dressing, 53.50 to 57.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 8 to 10 years old, 1250 to 1400 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality 610.00 to 780.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 125- to 150-lb. calves, high blacks 1000.00 to 1360.00.
