Tulia livestock auction reportThe Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 3,444 head Jan. 7, compared to 3,156 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to the last sale three weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $5 lower with calves instances $7 to $10 lower. The calf market improved as the sale progressed after starting out with the full decline. Fleshy and moderately fleshy 550- to 650-pound calves showed the most decline throughout the entire sale. Slaughter cows and bulls had no recent comparison but a definite higher undertone was noted with very good demand. Trade was slow to moderate and demand light. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 97% and slaughter cows and bulls 3% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 64% of the run, heifers 36%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 66%.
