Springfield livestock salesThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,600 head Jan. 2, compared to 2,200 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, feeder steers traded $1 to $3 lower and feeder heifers $3 to $4 lower. With grain futures climbing higher yet again by the close of the day, feeder cattle have little leverage ringing in the new year. A bitter cold snap across the region is expected to break by the weekend and be replaced by welcomed warm temperatures. Supply and demand were moderate. The feeder supply was made up of 59% steers and bulls and 41% heifers, with 64% over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 117.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.50 to 109.00, large package 556 lbs., fancy 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 96.50 to 105.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 98.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 95.50 to 97.50, package 873 lbs., full 87.00; 900 to 1000 lbs., 82.50 to 95.50.
