Sponsors part of new attractions at 2008 Western Farm ShowTradition only comes with longevity, and longevity can only be attained by evolving with the times. That is true for the 47th annual Western Farm Show, Feb. 22 to 24, at the American Royal Complex in Kansas City, Mo. While the show is steeped in tradition, this is the first year the show has been sponsored. The show's two primary sponsors, the Propane Education and Research Council and Specialty Fertilizer Products, represent linking the heritage of the past to the promise of the future, which is the theme of the 2008 Western Farm Show. This article spotlights each show sponsor. For more information, visit www.westernfarmshow.com. Propane and Education Research Council (PERC) From propane standby generators and tankless water heaters to organic weed control and flame sanitation for poultry houses, the propane industry is providing numerous innovations to farmers and others living in rural America. The propane industry through PERC invested in the development of these advancements and others which you can learn more about at PERC's exhibit and educational session at the Western Farm Show. PERC is a checkoff organization that began with the passage of the Propane Education and Research Act in 1996. It is the Council's mission to promote the safe and efficient use of propane as a preferred energy source. PERC has five advisory committees that advise the board on activities for industry members and the public. The committees focus on agriculture; research and development; safety and training; engine fuel; and consumer education. PERC's commitment to agriculture is displayed in the numerous projects it has supported that resulted in the development of new technology that benefits farmers. PERC has also invested in research projects to help farmers find the most efficient fuel choice for specific applications in the home and on the farm. Visitors to the PERC exhibit will learn more about the advantages of propane-powered irrigation, grain drying, flame and steam weed control, heat and flame sanitation of grain bins and poultry houses, and much more. In addition, new safety training materials will be available to farmers who would like to use propane-powered equipment on their farms. To learn more about how propane technology can help improve the productivity and efficiency of your operation, attend the PERC-sponsored education session. Specialty Fertilizer Products SFP was established in 1998 and has spent a decade dedicated to solving some of agriculture's long-standing challenges with fertilizer efficiencies. SFP's products AVAIL phosphorus fertilizer enhancer and NutriSphere-N nitrogen fertilizer manager, are proven to increase the availability of applied phosphorus, and nitrogen to the crop and increase crop yield and returns on investment for the grower. SFP's products were developed on the concept that when plants have the nutrients they need readily available, they have the potential to be healthier and more productive. Utilizing the fundamentals of soil chemistry, SFP developed its patented technology to overcome two long-standing challenges--phosphate fixation and nitrogen volatilization and leaching. By using SFP's products, growers can increase their yield and profit potential. SFP products include: AVAIL, a water-soluble additive for granular or liquid phosphorus fertilizer that acts as a shield, protecting the fertilizer from elements that normally would render phosphate unavailable in the soil NutriSphere-N, an additive for granular or liquid nitrogen fertilizer that creates an active shield around the nitrogen fertilizer to prevent volatilization and leaching, thus leaving more nitrogen in the soil for plant uptake.
