Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 998 head Jan. 7, compared to 587 head last week and 663 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $4 to $5 lower, slaughter ewes too few to test. No trend available on feeder lambs due to lack of comparable sales. Demand was moderate to good with good buyer attendance. Prices experiencing correction following holiday shortened market. Receipts were nearly 70% slaughter lambs, 24% feeder lambs and 6% slaughter ewes.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 141 to 144 lbs., 90.00 to 90.50 (90.42). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 127 lbs., 86.50; 133 to 148 lbs., 85.50 to 88.25 (86.88); 5 head, 152 lbs., 86.50. Wooled, Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 18 head, 134 to 146 lbs., 85.00; 20 head, 163 lbs., 83.25.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 4 head, 148 lbs., 35.00; 166 to 178 lbs., 35.00 to 36.50 (36.13); 14 head, 218 to 224 lbs., 31.00 to 36.00 (32.46). Good 2 to 4, 13 head, 205 to 222 lbs., 26.00 to 29.00 (26.87).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large 1 to 2, 13 head, 33 lbs., 132.00; 4 head, 65 lbs., 106.00; 70 to 79 lbs., 106.00 to 108.00 (107.49); 20 head, 84 to 88 lbs., 96.00 to 97.00 (96.51); 91 to 94 lbs., 94.50 to 97.50 (96.72); 110 to 112 lbs., 86.25 to 89.75 (87.74). Medium and large frame 2, 17 head, 90 lbs., 90.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 2, 6 head, 83 lbs., 85.00; 18 head, 93 lbs., 71.00.
