Rodeo tradition continues at 2008 Colorado State FairColorado The 2008 Colorado State Fair is still eight months away, but work is being done to ensure fans are treated to a thrilling, action-packed rodeo. This is the first year the fair has opened the position of stock contractor to a bidding process. Five Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association approved companies were sent a request for proposals and the finalist has been selected. "I am proud to announce that Vold Rodeo Company has been selected as the 2008 stock contractor for the Colorado State Fair," said General Manager Chris Wiseman. "Vold has been a part of the fair for more than 25 years. Every year, he offers powerful stock that gives some of the best cowboys and cowgirls a run for their money; we are proud to have them back." Vold Rodeo Company, owned and operated by Harry Vold and his family, is situated on a 30,000-acre ranch 25 miles southeast of Pueblo, Colo. Not only does the Vold family own some of rodeo's most respected bucking horses in the industry, but they also operate a bucking horse breeding program to help ensure that, year after year, their rodeos feature the very best animals the sport has to offer. Such dedication has earned Harry Vold the PRCA's Stock Contractor of the Year award 11 times. The Vold Rodeo Company annually produces and supplies stock for dozens of top rodeos, including Cheyenne, Wyo., Dodge City, Kan., and the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Colorado State Fair is also forming a rodeo committee to assist in organizing the five nights of rodeo action. The committee will consist of at least five year-round volunteer positions which will focus on specific aspects of the rodeo including marketing, arena preparation, grand entry, hospitality and Tough Enough to Wear Pink night. For those interested in being part of one of these committees, please contact Dani Griffith at 719-404-2013. "Rodeo is part of Colorado's history and has been part of the Colorado State Fair for nearly 50 years," continued Wiseman. "The fair attracts top-name cowboys and cowgirls from around the world and we want to make sure fans are getting top-notch entertainment for every penny they spend at the fair." The Colorado State Fair hosts five nights of PRCA rodeo action. Each rodeo has its own brand of entertainment, including calf dressing, a Dodge vehicle giveaway, the Tough Enough to Wear Pink fundraising night and a One Over 60 Team Roping. 2008 PRCA Rodeo dates are Aug. 22 to 26. The 2008 Colorado State Fair runs from Aug. 22 to Sept. 1. For more information, log onto www.coloradostatefair.com.
