Producer profitability meetings to be conducted in January, February

Texas

Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a series of profitability conferences throughout the Panhandle in January and February, said DeDe Jones, AgriLife Extension risk management specialist.

"With the development of a new farm bill and rising fertilizer and other input costs, it is very important that producers understand the risks and benefits surrounding their production and financial decisions," Jones said.

Each meeting will feature speakers addressing the commodity outlook for wheat, feed grains and cotton; a 2008 profitability analysis for irrigated and dryland crops; farm bill outlook; and information on financial and risk management assistance.

The following is a list of meetings:

--Jan. 14: 1 p.m., at the Ochiltree County Expo Center in Perryton;

--Jan. 14: 7 p.m., at the Lipscomb Clubhouse in Lipscomb;

--Jan. 18: 1 p.m., at the O'Laughlin Center in Spearman;

--Jan. 21: 10 a.m., at Wells Fargo Bank Building in Dalhart;

--Jan. 22: 11 a.m., at the Groom Community Center in Groom;

--Jan. 23: 9 a.m., at the Randall County Extension Center in Canyon;

--Jan. 24: 11 a.m., at the Robert's County Community Center in Miami.

Meetings also are planned for Stratford and Dimmitt in February. For more information on those or any of the meetings, contact the AgriLife Extension office in that county.

Texas Cooperative Extension changed its name to Texas AgriLife Extension Service on Jan. 1. An agency of the Texas A&M University System, AgriLife Extension's programs operate in every county and provide practical information and educational outreach in agriculture and natural resources, 4-H and youth development, family and consumer sciences and community economic development.
