Huron cattle sales report

The Bales Continental Commission Co., Huron, S.D., reported receipts of 3,289 head Jan. 8, compared to 1,178 head last week and 3,341 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to ten days ago, feeder steers up to 700 pounds sold steady, feeder steers over 700 pounds sold $3 to $5 lower. Feeder heifers sold steady to $2 lower. Demand and price driven by weaned calves with a shot program. Steers comprised 61% of the run, heifers 39%, with 83% of the run was over 600 pounds.
