Farmers help stricken comrade

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP)--The Christmas spirit flowed when about 30 volunteers pitched in to help a Brown County farmer who is hospitalized.

Friends and neighbors of Brian Ham hauled 30,000 bushels of his corn 25 miles to market in Aberdeen Dec. 26, using their own trucks. Others brought food to feed the volunteers at the farm near Barnard.

The 46-year-old Ham found out around Thanksgiving that he has a malignant brain tumor.

His mother, Helen Ham, said he was taken to Avera St. Luke's Hospital on Christmas Eve for treatment of blood clots.

Dec. 26 he was in intensive care, but his mother said he was chuckling with his nephews.
