Faith livestock sales report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 3,047 head Jan. 7, compared to 3,252 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last reported sale, feeder cattle trends not applicable due to no comparable sales last auction. Feeder cows sold steady to $2 lower in a limited test. Slaughter cows sold steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady to $1 higher. Demand was good for feeder cattle with mostly attractive offerings. Demand was moderate for all other classes. The feeder supply was comprised of 55% steers and 45% heifers with 82% over 600 pounds. The total receipts comprised of about 91% feeder cattle, 5% feeder cows, 4% slaughter cows and bulls with the balance miscellaneous cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 466 to 469 lbs., 125.50 to 126.00 (125.58); 532 to 538 lbs., 118.00 to 121.00 (120.20); 99 head, 579 lbs., 118.25; 602 to 646 lbs., 104.50 to 106.50 (105.50) calves; 654 to 673 lbs., 101.50 to 107.00 (103.82) calves; 724 to 726 lbs., 100.50; 701 to 748 lbs., 93.50 to 97.85 (96.44) calves; 754 to 798 lbs., 97.50 to 99.25 (98.85); 758 to 782 lbs., 95.25 to 98.00 (97.56) calves; 800 to 827 lbs., 93.50 to 98.75 (97.44). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 14 head, 530 lbs., 108.00; 10 head, 567 lbs., 101.00; 15 head, 637 to 640 lbs., 100.50 to 102.50 (101.83) calves; 15 head, 665 to 669 lbs., 98.00 to 98.75 (98.45) calves; 29 head, 734 lbs., 95.25; 15 head, 786 lbs., 94.25.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes 1000 to 1100 lbs., 80.50 to 85.50; young, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 63.00 to 74.00; middle aged, 1250 to 1350 lbs., 45.25 to 47.25; aged, 1175 to 1350 lbs., 42.50 to 44.50. Large frame 1, 1400 to 2000 lbs., 42.50 to 47.75.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1550 lbs., 41.00 to 44.50; low dressing, 39.00 to 40.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 36.00 to 38.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1700 to 2135 lbs., 53.25 to 57.75.
