Utah's Millerberg to serve as 2008 NALF President

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the North American Limousin Foundation was Jan. 14 at the Doubletree Hotel in Denver, Colo., in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show. About 100 members and guests attended.

With NALF President Wendell Geeslin, Platteville, Colo., presiding, the main order of business was the Board of Directors election. Nominating Committee Vice Chairman Gordon Schuppe, Iliff, Colo., presented the committee's slate of five nominees, which received unanimous approval.

Lance Sennett, Waynetown, Ind., and Jerry Wulf, Morris, Minn., began their second terms on the Board. Mike Hall, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Brian Skaggs, Lexington, Okla.; and Tom Vaughn, Cavalier, N.D., also took their seats on the 2008 Board, which met afterward to elect officers.

Bob Millerberg, Draper, Utah, will serve as president for the coming year, with Bruce Lawrence, Anton, Texas, serving as vice president. Sennett will continue as secretary; and Bob Mitchell, Wauzeka, Wis., again will be treasurer. The Board elected Richard Hefner, Seminole, Okla., as the member-at-large on the Executive Committee, and Geeslin--as immediate past president--will serve as an ex officio member of both the Board and its Executive Committee.

The other 2008 Board members are Harley Coleman, Charlo, Mont.; Jack Glendenning, Lebanon, Mo.; Ed Pinegar, Springfield, Mo.; Roger Potter, Redwood Falls, Minn.; Mike Smith, Plainville, Kan.; and Jay Straight, Logan, Iowa.

During the Annual Meeting, Geeslin recognized retiring Board members Bob Etherton, Dawson, Ill., and David Lee, White House, Tenn. NALF Executive Vice President Kent Andersen, Ph.D., presented a token of appreciation to Geeslin for his service as a Board member and president.

Before the meeting adjourned, Beppe Pantaleoni, president of the International Limousin Council, offered an invitation to the International Limousin Conference in Italy, May 20 to 28, and outlined some of the valuable lessons he expected it to offer.

A pre-meeting session started with Andersen sharing highlights of the 2007 State of the Breed report. The full year-end summary is part of the NALF Annual Report, which meeting attendees received. It is available in the secured, members-only portion of the NALF Web site (www.nalf.org/members). Active NALF members also may request copies from the NALF office, 303-220-1693, at any time.

Andersen's comments led into a short video about the history of Strauss Veal and Lamb International and its plans to launch a new meadow-raised, Limousin-based veal product. After that, the company's co-president, Randy Strauss, explained the supply-development efforts his team and NALF have developed. For more information about that new marketing opportunity for Limousin-influenced weaning calves, contact Frank Padilla, director of member and commercial relations, at the NALF office.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services--including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires--to more than 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim-Flex hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
