Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 1,733 head Jan. 28, compared to 1,700 head last week and 3,385 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker steers and heifers were $3 to $5 higher. Few feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $3 higher, heifers were mostly $2 higher. Weigh-ups were mostly average. Demand was very good on better cattle with good attendance of buyers. Receipts included 39% steers, 45% heifers, 17% bulls, with 34% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Packer demand very good on lean cows. A total of 227 cows and bulls sold with 56% going to packers.

Boners, 31 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1775 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 54.50; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50. Lean, 38 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1450 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50. Light, 20 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 42.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 48.00; low dressing, 37.50 to 41.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 30 head, 1400 to 2100 lbs., 59.50 to 63.00; high dressing, 64.00 to 67.00; low dressing, 55.00 to 58.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1075 to 1150 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, low quality, 750.00 to 775.00.
