St. Onge livestock sales reportThe St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,137 head Jan. 25, compared to 1,566 head last week and 469 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder steers under 700 pounds sold mostly steady, and offerings over 700 pounds sold steady to $2 higher. Feeder heifers under 600 pounds sold $1 to $4 higher, offerings over 600 pounds sold $4 to $7 higher with quality a major contributing factor. Replacement heifers sold with a higher undertone and were priced per head. Demand was good for all classes. Slaughter cows sold $7 to $9 higher when related to last week's light run. Slaughter bulls and feeder cow trends not applicable due to no comparable sales. Feeder steers and bulls comprised 36% of the run; heifers 64%. The supply included 56% over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 81% feeder cattle, 14% feeder cows, 3% slaughter cows and bulls with balance miscellaneous cattle. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 457 to 496 lbs., 124.00 to 131.00 (127.17); 520 to 535 lbs., 122.00 to 124.00 (123.27); 579 to 598 lbs., 114.00 to 120.00 (116.99); 604 to 622 lbs., 116.00 to 118.00 (117.53) calves; 653 to 698 lbs., 100.00 to 109.50 (102.29) calves; 710 to 733 lbs., 101.25 to 104.50 (103.63) calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 16 head, 550 to 583 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00 (109.07); 626 to 645 lbs., 103.00 to 110.00 (105.34) calves. Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 400 lbs., 118.00; 468 to 492 lbs., 114.00 to 115.00 (114.93); 500 to 543 lbs., 107.50 to 114.75 (110.62); 554 to 596 lbs., 102.00 to 108.50 (104.93); 601 to 631 lbs., 100.50 to 105.00 (102.78) calves; 15 head, 628 lbs., 635.00) per head; 661 to 686 lbs., 97.00 to 100.00 (98.58) calves; 670 to 688 lbs., 685.00 to 735.00 (719.75) per head; 739 to 748 lbs., 690.00 to 700.00 (695.03) per head; 14 head, 751 lbs., 710.00 per head. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 516 to 533 lbs., 106.00 to 109.00 (106.82); 8 head, 569 to 571 lbs., 98.00 to 102.00 (100.00); 18 head, 607 to 639 lbs., 94.50 to 98.00 (95.76) calves. Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 598 lbs., 105.00. Large frame 1, 5 head, 678 lbs., 87.00 calves. Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes 940 to 1125 lbs., 79.50 to 82.00; 3 to 4 years old, 850 to 1000 lbs., 65.00 to 77.00; young, 1000 to 1325 lbs., 50.00 to 56.00; middle aged, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 46.50 to 49.50; aged, 1050 to 1275 lbs., 42.50 to 45.00. Large frame 1, 1425 to 1525 lbs., 50.00 to 53.25. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1580 to 1715 lbs., 48.50; high dressing, 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1175 to 1800 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.00; low dressing, 42.50 to 45.50.
