Springfield livestock sales

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,387 head Jan. 23, compared to 2,808 head last week and 1,716 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers traded $3 to $5 higher with instances $5 to $7 higher on steers falling into the 450- to 650-pound category. Feeder heifers traded $2 to $4 higher. Feeder Holstein steers were steady to $1 lower. The supply was much lighter than last week with the bulk of the offering carrying significant amounts of flesh. The supply was made up of 41% steers, 10% Holstein steers, 41% heifers, and 8% feeder bulls, with nearly 61% of the feeders over 600 pounds, with the exception of Holstein steers feeders over 800 pounds very scarce. Demand was good as grain futures closed either limit or very near to limit down. Losses have occurred on the grain side nearly every day since last weeks auction.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2 300 to 400 lbs., 106.00 to 118.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.00 to 106.00, thin 110.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 97.00 to 107.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 90.50 to 98.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 85.50 to 93.50. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 450 lbs., 102.00 to 106.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 89.00 to 99.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, package 281 lbs., 85.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 69.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 60.50 to 65.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 60.00 to 63.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 57.50 to 62.75; 900 to 950 lbs., 60.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 600 lbs., 95.00 to 99.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 88.00 to 96.00, thin 101.00; package 807 lbs., 87.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 104.00 to 111.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 96.00 to 105.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 93.00 to 101.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 89.50 to 97.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 85.00 to 93.00, fleshy 80.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 80.00 to 87.50. Medium and large frame 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 96.00 to 99.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 83.00 to 89.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 83.50 to 88.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 75.00 to 83.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 75.00 to 80.00. Medium frame 2, package 442 lbs., 79.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 600 lbs., 95.00 to 105.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 94.00 to 98.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 89.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 450 to 500 lbs., 95.00 to 98.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 88.00 to 97.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 80.00 to 91.00.
