Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 576 head of sheep and goats Jan. 28, compared to 433 head last week and 921 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady. There were not enough slaughter ewes or feeder lambs for an accurate market trend, however a steady undertone was noted. Receipts included 52% slaughter lambs, 20% slaughter ewes, 8% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 47 head, 119 lbs., 90.50; 21 head, 145 lbs., 90.25. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 121 to 126 lbs., 86.00 to 88.00 (87.69); 130 to 140 lbs., 85.75 to 86.50 (85.89). Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 7 head, 163 lbs., 83.25. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 6 head, 113 lbs., 90.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 14 head, 134 to 154 lbs., 35.50 to 36.00 (35.77); 160 to 194 lbs., 33.00 to 37.00 (35.95). Good 3 to 4, 7 head, 204 to 228 lbs., 30.00. Utility 1 to 2, 12 head, 146 to 158 lbs., 23.00 to 29.00 (25.88). Cull 1, 114 to 138 lbs., 13.00 to 17.00 (15.99).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 76 lbs., 104.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 26 head, 95 lbs., 91.00. Selection 1, 10 head, 47 lbs., 110.00; 42 head, 62 lbs., 107.00.
