Register now for Colorado Agricultural Big and Small Conference and Trade Show

The third-annual Colorado Agriculture Big and Small Conference and Trade Show will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 21 to 23 at Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley.

This three day, diverse educational program includes topics on: Sustainable Agriculture, Soil Ecology, Marketing into Local Food Systems, Sourcing Organic Livestock Feed, Insect Control with Mulches, Selling to Local Produce Retailers, Drip Irrigation, Composting, News for Farm Workers', Making a Living with a Small Greenhouse, Climate Change and Agricultural Impacts just to mention a few of the diverse, educational programs. Registration is due by Feb. 15 and is $35 per day, $60 for two days or $75 for the three-day conference and trade show. A morning tour will leave from the South West Weld County Complex on Feb. 20. It will cover two Community Supported Agricultural operations. On Feb. 23 the conference will focus on small acreages with programs on pastures, weed management, planting grasses, manure management, composting, care of trees in windbreaks, living snow fences, basic horse foot care, buying a horse, raising poultry, barns, outbuildings and buying a tractor.

This conference should be of interest to any commodity business and growers, as well as anyone who may have an interest in any of the 37 educational presentations available during this three day event. Colorado's own produce will be featured and prepared by Chef Aran Essig, University of Northern Colorado. Essig will present to include an organic New York strip hot sandwich station with twice- baked rose finn and purple potatoes on the Feb. 21, and basils-stuffed chicken parmesan with Osage garden basil tossed with whole wheat pasta on the Feb. 22. The conference will conclude on Feb. 23 with a bread-bowl chili buffet with either beef red chili and Anasazi beans or a vegetarian green chili in the bowl.

The meals, trade show, and the educational offerings should be a culinary delight, build your agricultural networking connections and broaden your knowledge of the diversity of our produce, organic and small farm acreages in Colorado.
