Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 1,916 head Jan. 24, compared to 3,646 head last week and 2,386 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers at 300 to 600 pounds were $1 to $2 higher. Steers at 600 to 950 pounds were $1 to $2 higher. Heifers at 600 to 900 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows were steady to firm. Bulls were firm to $2 higher. Receipts included 63% 600 pounds and over, 20% 600 pounds and under, 17% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 63% steers and 37% heifers.

Bred cows: Per head, Medium and large frame 1, bred 3rd trimester, broken mouth, 5 head, 1293 lbs., 670.00; Medium frame 1, young, 14 head, 938 lbs., 900.00.

Pairs: Per pair, Medium and large frame 1, young, 15 pair, 1287 to 1295 lbs., with 230- to 340-lb. calves, 1050.00 to 1090.00 (1059.30); broken mouth, 11 head, 1250 to 1295 lbs., with 190- to 230-lb. calves, 875.00 to 975.00 (950.43); 17 pair, 1270 to 1295 lbs., with 160-223-lb. calves, 650.00 to 720.00 (668.66). Large frame 1, broken mouth, 10 pair, 1340 lbs., with 247-lb. calves, 750.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 53.00 to 56.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 42.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 48.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 61.50 to 67.00 (63.42); low dressing, 53.00 to 58.00 (54.67).
