McAlester livestock auctionThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,275 head Jan. 29, compared to 700 head last week and 2,100 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were $3 to $5 higher. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was active. Many thin to medium flesh, attractive cattle were in the yards. Receipts consisted of 42% steers, 53% heifers with 28% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers and 48% went to packers. There was moderate demand for bred cows. No pairs were on offer.
