McAlester livestock auction

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,275 head Jan. 29, compared to 700 head last week and 2,100 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were $3 to $5 higher. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was active. Many thin to medium flesh, attractive cattle were in the yards. Receipts consisted of 42% steers, 53% heifers with 28% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers and 48% went to packers. There was moderate demand for bred cows. No pairs were on offer.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 273 lbs., 141.00; 7 head, 304 to 337 lbs., 133.00 to 135.00 (134.19); 7 head, 360 to 395 lbs., 125.00 to 131.00 (125.81); 11 head, 410 to 430 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00 (124.46); 17 head, 450 to 490 lbs., 116.50 to 119.50 (117.78); 17 head, 500 to 545 lbs., 112.00 to 118.50 (114.05); 550 to 590 lbs., 104.00 to 111.00 (107.47); 605 to 645 lbs., 101.50 to 108.25 (105.73); 7 head, 650 to 655 lbs., 107.00 to 107.50 (107.43); 10 head, 700 to 730 lbs., 100.00 to 103.25 (101.41); 8 head, 752 to 795 lbs., 94.00 to 99.50 (96.07). Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 350 to 395 lbs., 113.50 to 121.00 (117.97); 9 head, 405 to 445 lbs., 108.00 to 119.00 (113.26); 7 head, 450 to 485 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00 (113.46); 19 head, 510 to 545 lbs., 102.00 to 108.00 (106.30); 5 head, 550 to 590 lbs., 99.00 to 103.00 (101.51). Slaughter cows: Boners, 20 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1045 to 1595 lbs., 50.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 48.00. Lean, 15 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1240 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.00. Light, 17 head, 85 to 92% lean, 775 to 975 lbs., 45.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1230 to 1905 lbs., 60.00 to 63.50; high dressing, 68.00 to 70.50; low dressing, 57.00 to 59.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 2 to 6 years old, 935 to 1390 lbs., second to third trimester, average blacks, 760.00 to 870.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1040 to 1225 lbs., second to third trimester, average quality, 620.00 to 720.00.
