Dodge City cattle sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock Inc., Dodge City, Kan., reported receipts of 2,567 head Jan. 23, compared to 3,521 head last week and 2,018 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 350 to 600 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, with instance of $5 higher on 500 to 550 pounds. Steers at 600 to 900 pounds were steady to $3 higher, with an instance of $4 higher on 800 to 850 pounds. Heifers at 400 to 600 pounds were $1 to $4 higher, and 600 to 850 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were not enough for an accurate test, but a higher undertone was noted. Trade and demand were moderate. Receipts included 77% over 600 pounds, 20% under 600 pounds, and 3% slaughter cows and bulls with 80 head, early. The feeder supply consisted of 57% steers and 43% heifers.

Bred cows: 4 head, 1151 lbs., Medium and large frame 2, aged, broken mouth, third trimester, 630.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 2 head, 1422 lbs., aged, solid mouth, second trimester, 670.00; Large frame 2, 3 head, 1388 lbs., aged, broken mouth, third trimester, 660.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, individual 56.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 48.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 47.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 46.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 45.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 61.50 to 62.00; low dressing, 54.00 to 59.50.
