Coffee shop agronomy, livestock meetings set

Barney Gordon will be the featured speaker Feb. 8 at the first Coffee Shop meeting in this year's series of educational meetings organized by the Central Kansas Extension District. Gordon, the agronomist at K-State's Northcentral Kansas Experiment Field will give an update on dryland cropping systems research and fertilizer application in no-till cropping systems.

Coffee Shop Agronomy meetings will be held at the Mentor Fire Station in Mentor, Kan., starting at 10 a.m. and adjourning by 11:30 a.m., Feb. 8, 15, and 29. On Feb. 22 the meeting will be held at the Ottawa County Courthouse basement meeting room.

Planned schedule of topics are as follows:

--Feb. 8, Mentor, Dryland Cropping Systems Research Update and Fertilizer Application in No-Till Cropping Systems, Barney Gordon, K-State NCK Field agronomist.

--Feb. 15, Mentor, Foliar Fungicides for Wheat, Erick DeWolf, K-State Research & Extension wheat pathologist.

--Feb. 22, Minneapolis, Feeding the Cowherd for Calving, Twig Marston, K- State Research & Extension cow-calf specialist.

--Feb. 29, Mentor, Field Crop Weed Control Update, Resistant Weeds in Wheat and Tips on Glyphosate Application; Dallas Peterson, K-State Research & Extension weed specialist.
