Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 612 head Jan. 29, compared to 929 head last week and 512 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, this was a light run and not enough for an adequate market test. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm to $2 higher with an active trade again this week. The bulk of the limited supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 650-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good on the few light calves and light to moderate on the limited supply of short yearlings. Feeder cattle accounted for 80% and slaughter cows and bulls 20% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 58% of the run, heifers 42%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 63%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 325 to 375 lbs., 118.00 to 124.00; few 400 to 450 lbs., 116.00 to 122.00; package 530 lbs., 107.00; few 625 to 675 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00; few 725 to 760 lbs., 94.5 to 99.50; lot 982 lbs., 87.75; part load 1025 lbs., 86.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 350 to 375 lbs., 101.00 to 114.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 92.00 to 102.00; few 600 to 625 lbs., short yearlings 90.00 to 94.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 300 to 400 lbs., 109.00 to 111.00; few 425 to 475 lbs., 95.00 to 96.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., 91.00 to 95.00; few 600 to 650 lbs., calves 90.00 to 92.00; 700 to 800 lbs., calves 89.50 to 90.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 350 to 400 lbs., 100.00 to 104.00; package 482 lbs., 94.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves few packages 87.00 to 88.00; 700 to 750 lbs., few 91.00 to 93.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 47.00 to 48.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.50 to 49.00; high dressing, 54.50; low dressing, 46.00 to 47.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 45.00 to 48.00; high dressing, 54.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 40.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 44.00; low dressing, 26.00 to 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 63.00 to 64.00; low dressing, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 52.00 to 58.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to aged, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 670.00 to 780.00 per head, 800 to 1000 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 400.00 to 570.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 840.00 to 880.00 per pair.
