Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 631 head Feb. 18, compared to 942 head last week and 535 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, there were not enough comparable sales of slaughter lambs to establish an accurate trend, however a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs were too few to make a meaningful comparison, but a steady undertone was noted. Demand was good for most classes. Demand was very good for lighter weight slaughter lambs. Receipts included about 48% slaughter lambs, 23% slaughter ewes and 20% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 6 head, 146 lbs., 92.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 115 to 129 lbs., 95.50 to 99.00 (97.31); 19 head, 139 to 143 lbs., 93.00 to 96.00 (94.72). Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 21 head, 119 lbs., 93.00; 8 head, 136 lbs., 93.50. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 11 head, 161 to 175 lbs., 41.50 to 44.00 (41.99). Good 3 to 4, 14 head, 187 to 198 lbs., 30.00 to 35.00 (31.26). Utility 1 to 2, 16 head, 122 to 144 lbs., 30.00 to 34.00 (32.55). Cull 1, 120 to 149 lbs., 14.00 to 21.50 (16.91). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 81 lbs., 109.00; 16 head, 93 lbs., 106.00; 101 to 107 lbs., 100.00 to 106.00 (102.20). Medium frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 97 lbs., 93.00. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 7 head, 45 lbs., 126.00; 18 head, 64 lbs., 130.00. Selection 1 to 2, 6 head, 87 lbs., 87.50.
