Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 285 head Feb. 14, compared to 751 head last week, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold steady to $3 higher in a light test. Feeder lambs were lightly tested so trends were not applicable. Receipts were comprised of about 13% feeder lambs, 79% slaughter ewes and bucks with the balance bred ewes. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 163 to 189 lbs., 23.75 to 26.75 (26.35). Good 3 to 4, 13 head, 223 lbs., 18.25. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 37 head, 136 lbs., 16.00. Cull 1, 28 head, 125 lbs., 9.75. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 86 lbs., 106.50; 17 head, 90 lbs., 105.50. Slaughter bucks: 13 head, 208 to 227 lbs 17.25 to 18.00 fleshy. Bred ewes: Large frame 1 to 2, 26 head, short term, lamb March 15, 180 lbs., 80.00 per head. 2/25/08 Date: 2/21/08
