Huron cattle sales report

The Bales Continental Commission Co., Huron, S.D., reported receipts of 2,924 head Feb. 19, compared to 2,371 head last week and 2,897 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder steers sold steady to $2 lower. Feeder heifers sold unevenly steady. Demand was good with many load lots in the offering. Price was driven by weaned cattle with a shot program. Many good quality heifers went back out into the country for breeding programs. The offering was comprised of 51% steers, 49% heifers, with 95% of the run were over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 12 head, 575 to 591 lbs., 103.00 to 104.00 (103.33); 6 head, 615 lbs., 109.00 calves; 673 to 696 lbs., 103.50 to 106.00 (105.08) calves; 18 head, 700 to 709 lbs., 103.50 to 104.50 (104.22) calves; 9 head, 751 lbs., 97.25 calves; 6 head, 807 to 813 lbs., 86.00 to 88.00 (87.00) calves.
