Governor Ritter announces small wind incentive programFunds provided for installation of small wind systems Colorado Governor Ritter announced a statewide Small Wind Incentive Program Feb. 15 at the ribbon cutting for the Wray School Wind Turbine, in Wray, Colo. The program is the first for the state and will use Clean Energy Funds to provide financial incentives for homeowners and business owners to install wind systems. The program is offered by the Governor's Energy Office which will partner with interested cities, municipalities, utilities, and non-profits by offering matching grants for wind turbine installations. GEO will award approximately eight matched grants of $25,000. The program will facilitate 40 small wind energy installations throughout the state. Partners in this program will be responsible for providing match funding and staff support required to administer the rebate program. "A recent mapping of Colorado's renewable energy resources shows our Eastern Plains have the potential for 96 gigawatts of wind energy," said Gov. Ritter. "Combined with energy efficiency, wind energy is an opportunity to control energy costs for businesses and homeowners. This program will allow more Coloradans, especially those in rural areas, to participate in the New Energy Economy." The Small Wind Incentive Program, similar to GEO's Residential Solar Program, was created in response to the growing demand of Coloradans to reduce their carbon footprint and benefit from Colorado's abundant renewable energy resources. Small Wind Incentive Program Details: --$25,000 maximum matching grant from GEO--$25,000 or greater match from the recipient is required --Rebates will be paid for up to 10 kW of installed DC capacity per installation, including systems larger than 10 kW --Incentive will be $1/watt DC from the partner and $1/watt DC from GEO, totaling $2/watt --Rebates will not exceed 50 percent of the total cost of the project, or $10,000 --Wind systems must be grid-tied and net metered by the interconnecting utility. Stand alone systems are not eligible --Eligibility for the rebate will require demonstration that all cost effective energy efficiency measures have been implemented in order to obtain the highest level of energy performance practical --All equipment shall be approved by Underwriters Laboratory --All systems shall have a minimum 5 year warranty required on major system components and installation, with the exception of batteries, for which a minimum 2 year warranty is required To learn more about this program, visit GEO's website, www.colorado.gov/energy. 2/25/08 Date: 2/20/08
