Fair judges training set Feb. 23

Colorado

Northeast Colorado Extension will host a training to prepare individuals to be judges for 4-H and open class fairs exhibits in Colorado. Training is Feb. 23, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Gary DeSoto Building at the Logan County Fairgrounds, Sterling.

Workshops will cover exhibit requirements for 4-H foods, heritage arts, ceramics, child development, and consumer education. For each project area, trainers will discuss criteria for judging exhibits and what 4-H members need to complete to have a quality entry. The program will also provide an overview of 4-H records and interview judging skills, as well as changes for 2008 in consumer and family project areas.

Training will also include information for those wanting to judge open class areas of baked foods, needlework and other fiber arts, and creative arts and crafts. There are not enough trained judges in either 4-H or open class to meet the needs, especially in rural counties where a person may be requested to judge several exhibit categories.

Registration is $10 per person which includes breaks and all training materials. The program will conclude prior to lunch. Registration is due by Feb. 20, to any Extension office in Northeast Colorado or it can be mailed with payment to Morgan County Extension, PO Box 517, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.

For additional information, contact your county Extension office or call the Morgan County Extension Center, 970-542-3540.
